Life Story for Johnny Walter Shelley

Johnny Walter  Shelley
Mr. Johnny Walter Shelley, age 62, a resident of Cowarts, Alabama, died Monday September 5, 2016 in Dothan, Alabama after an extended illness.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 10, 2016 at Smyrna Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Wayne Elliot and Reverend Hosea Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.

The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Smyrna Baptist Church prior to services. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Smyrna Baptist Church, 1800 Huskey Road, Dothan, Alabama, 36303.

Mr. Shelley was born on February 18, 1954 in Henry County, Alabama the son of George Edward and Annie Mae Bowen Shelley. He was a Headland High School Graduate. In his early years, Mr. Shelley was employed at Larry’s Bar-B-Que. Since 1989 Mr. Shelley had been involved in law enforcement working in security and with the Geneva County Sheriff’s Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Christopher “Lucky” Shelley and Shelby Ray Shelley; and two sisters, Dottie Lewis and Lorene Smith.

Survivors include: his wife Madalyn Ruth Priest Shelley, 1 son, John Turner Shelley (Emily), Geneva, AL; 4 sisters, Ann Pippin, Cowarts, AL; Ruby Ward, Cowarts, AL; Susan Jervis, Avon More, PA; and Jerry Vasko, Pittsburgh, PA; 6 brothers, Terry Shelley, Dothan, AL; Roger Shelley, Vero Beach, FL; J. B. Shelley, Eufaula, AL; Allen Shelley, Dothan, AL; Freddy Shelley, Webb, AL; and James Shelley, Webb, AL; 1 grandchild, John Ryker Shelley, Geneva, AL.
