Life Story for Betty Lou Watkins Swicord

Mrs. Betty Lou Watkins Swicord, age 81, a resident of Dothan, died Monday July 18, 2016 at her home after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday July 20, 2016 at Southside Baptist Church with Reverend Stacy Stafford and Dr. Jerry Grandstaff officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.

The family will be receiving friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Media Library at Southside Baptist Church, 423 E. Cottonwood Rd., Dothan, AL. 36301.

Mrs. Swicord was born on March 6, 1935 in Dothan the daughter of John Tom Watkins and Laura Elizabeth Wade Watkins. She was baptized in 1945 at the First Baptist Church and has been a member of Southside Baptist Church since 1947. Mrs. Swicord was retired as a bookkeeper having worked at Auto Electric, Dothan Neon Sign Co. and Burdeshaw’s Lock & Security. She was a 1953 graduate of Dothan High School and attended Riley Business College. Gardening, Traveling, Cooking and her Family were the things that she enjoyed and loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, Ladon Watkins.

Survivors include: husband of 63 years, Charles H. Swicord, Sr., Dothan; daughter, Elizabeth Dianne Laseter (Kerry), Kinsey; son, Charles Hugh Swicord, Jr. (Freida), Dothan; grandchildren, Garret Ryan Wilkins, Jon Alan Wilkins, Laura Elizabeth Swicord, Charles Hugh Swicord, III, Davis Robert Swicord, and Benjamin Joseph Swicord; great-grandchildren, Bailee, Kelsey, & Tate Wilkins; Jack & Lucy Wilkins.

Pallbearers will be: Pat Burdeshaw, Dan Burdeshaw, Lamar Glover, Wayne LeCroy, Terry Bruce and Robert Jewell.
