Obituary for Earl Frieman Patterson Sr.

Earl Frieman Patterson, Sr. age 75, of Dothan, passed way Monday August 11, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer. He grew up in Leeds and graduated from Leeds High School in 1956. Mr. Patterson was a Marine Corps Veteran. He served as a Birmingham police officer prior to his employment with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, where he retired as a captain after 35 years of service. He was a graduate of Jefferson State Community College, UAB, Jacksonville State University and the FBI National Academy. Mr. Patterson was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and spent his retirement years in Dothan to enjoy his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irona and Clead Patterson of Leeds; his brothers, Albert Patterson of Odenville and Charles Patterson of Leeds.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Ware Patterson, Dothan; daughter, Melanie Davis (Steve) of Hoover; sons, Earl Patterson, Jr. (Michele) of Dothan, and Philip Patterson of Nashville, Tn.; sisters, Juanita Bramlett of Odenville and Alice Irwin of Leeds; sister-in-law, Marilyn Patterson of Odenville; grandchildren, Michael Patterson of Birmingham; Blake Davis, Hoover, Conner and Madelyn Patterson of Dothan; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday August 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Dothan with Rev. Ray Jones and Blake Davis officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Leeds.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 1231 Fortner Street, Dothan, AL. 36301.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday August 15, 2014 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Leeds. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Leeds on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
