Life Story for James David Baxley

James David  Baxley
Mr. James “David” Baxley, age 80, a resident of Slocomb, died early Thursday March 9, 2017 at his residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday March 12, 2017 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church (Grady Garner Rd) with Dr. J. Chris Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. on Sunday prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL. 36303.

Mr. Baxley was born on August 13, 1936 in Geneva County the son of Jim Baxley and Mildred Dean Lassiter Baxley. He was a 1954 graduate of Slocomb High School and a U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. Baxley worked for many years in the auto parts business and was the owner/operator of Baxley Auto Parts in Graceville, Florida for 20 years. He was a Mason and a Shriner where he was Past Potentate. Mr. Baxley also worked for several years with James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville, Florida and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jo Tompkins Baxley; daughter, Marcia Celeste Baxley; son, Harry Register, Jr.; the mother of his children, Janie Baxley.

Survivors include: 2 daughters, Cynthia Ann Franklin, Texas City, TX; Janet Leigh Efurd (Ed), Dothan; 2 sons, Richard Register (Joanne), Palm Harbor, FL; Tom Register (Suzanne), Petal, MS; 2 sisters, JoAnne Smith (Jimmy), and Janie Spivey (Don) both of Slocomb; sister-in-law, Tommie Cumbaa (J.D.), Cottondale, FL; special friend, Mary Lou Phillips, Slocomb; 8 grandchildren, Tori Peay, Albert Peay, Jr., Haley Baxley (Lee Roberts), Russell Powell (Ashley), Benjamin Efurd, Melissa Register, Allison Register and Jeffrey Register; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; special thanks to the staff of Amedysis and Kindred Hospice.
Active pallbearers will be: Ben Efurd, Lee Roberts, Russell Powell, Whit Barron, Donny Bolin and Jerry Holder.

Honorary pallbearer will be Cayden Pollard.
