Life Story for James Ray Roney

Mr. James Ray Roney, age 82, a resident of Cowarts, died early Sunday May 1, 2016 after a brief illness.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday May 3, 2016 at the Enon Church Cemetery near Webb with Dr. John Haley officiating and Kendall Glover directing. Flowers will be accepted. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the cemetery.

Mr. Roney was born on April 23, 1934 in Ashford the son of Holsey Webster Roney and Alberta Davis Roney. He retired after 35 years as a sales agent with Independent Life Insurance Co. and American General. During those years he lived in Selma four years and in Andalusia for four years. Mr. Roney was a member of the Honeysuckle Church of Christ; a 1955 graduate of Ashford High School and was a resident of Houston County for over 70 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Lucille Roney; 3 brothers, Edwin, Earl and Charles Roney.

Survivors include: wife, Ethel Armistead Roney, Dothan; sister, Sarah Roney McBriar (Nick), Cowarts; 2 brothers, Wilburn Roney (Sue), Avon; Bobby Roney, Ashford; special niece, Peggy Johnson (James), Gadsden; special friends and caregivers, Andrea & Brian Parker, Rehobeth.

Pallbearers will be: Brian Parker, C.J. Smith, Stan Smith, Buzz Brewer, J.D. Amerson and Coby Smith.
