Obituary for James Reynolds Harper

Mr. James (Jimmy) Reynolds Harper, age 90, a resident of Compass Lake & Dothan, died early Sunday January 24, 2016 in Dothan following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday January 26, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. James B. Sanders III and Reverend Allie Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Hill Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday in the church parlor prior to services. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 1380 W. Main St., Dothan, AL. 36301.

Mr. Harper was born on July 16, 1925 in Dalhart, Texas the son of Dr. John Alexander Harper and Mollye Reynolds Fail Harper. He was a 1942 graduate of Starke University School in Montgomery and attended Auburn University and Howard College. Mr. Harper owned and operated Harper Dental Lab in Dothan for 49 years and he was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Harper was a Mason & Shriner; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, diving and boating.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kristi Harper Spivey; a son, James R. Harper, Jr.; a brother, Larry Hope Harper.

Survivors include: wife of 61 years, Sallie Dixon Harper, Dothan; daughter, Debbie Harper Hurst (John), Huntsville; son, Larry R. Harper (Shelby), Panama City, Fl.; son, Kevin D. Harper, Destin, Fl.; son, John W. Harper (Sally), Marietta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Laura Hurst, Stan Hurst, Megan Harper, Mollye Harper, Hannah Harper, Josh Harper, G. Spann Spivey, Mallory Harper, Melanie Harper Mickey and James Reynolds Harper III; 5 great-grandchildren, Addison, Emma, Evan, Griffin and Sophia.

Pallbearers will be: Dr. Charles Allen, Dr. Michael Howell, Tom Hicks, Terry Watkins, Billy Joe Sallas, Scott Sansom.

Pathfinders Sunday School Class are asked to be Honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to give a Special Thank You to the Covenant Care Hospice especially Cynthia, Sara, Kim, Lisa and Kashia, Dr. Robeson and Dr. McCallister.
