Life Story for Rubye Iduma Small (Crawford)

Mrs. Rubye Crawford Small, age 88, a resident of Dothan, passed away early Saturday August 8, 2015 at Wesley Manor after an extended illness.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery with Rev. Lynn Nesbitt officiating and Kendall Glover directing.

The family will be receiving friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Glover Funeral Home parlor. Flowers will be accepted or the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Women, 1380 W. Main St., Dothan, Al. 36301 or to the Ramey’s Chapel Cemetery Association, c/o Dolores Crawford, 22609 Alabama Hwy. 25 N., Greensboro, Al. 36744.

Mrs. Small was born on April 4, 1927 in Greensboro, the daughter of Walter Smith Crawford, Sr. and Mayola Melissa Scales Crawford. She worked for several years in medical records at Gunter Air Force Base and Jackson Hospital and for the Alabama Extension Service in Montgomery prior to moving to Dothan in 1966. Mrs. Small retired as church hostess from First United Methodist Church where she worked for many years. She was a a graduate of Greensboro High School class of 1944 and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 49 years. She served in the Business and Professional Womens Association in Montgomery and served with various PTA groups at schools in Montgomery and Dothan. Mrs. Small was a Loving & Dedicated Mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Joel Small, Sr. and a brother, Walter Smith Crawford, Jr.

Survivors include: daughter, Martha Jo Dennison, Dothan; a son, R. Joel Small, Jr., Navarre, Fl.; sister, Betty Jo Ferguson, Greensboro; a sister-in-law, Irene Crawford, Greensboro; a special friend & roommate at Wesley Manor, Conella Eubanks; several nieces & nephews. The family would like to give a special Thank You to the CNA’s and all the other staff at Wesley Manor.
