Life Story for Ann Wessel

Mrs. Ann Williams Wessel, age 66, a resident of Dothan passed away Monday, April 27, 2015 at home after an extended illness.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Dothan with Dr. James Sanders III and Reverend Allie Freeman officiating and Kendall Glover directing.

The family will be receiving friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. in the church parlor prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be directed to First United Methodist Church, Worship
Enhancement Lift Fund, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, AL. 36301.

Mrs. Wessel was born on November 5, 1948 in Millen, GA., the daughter of Cecil Heyward Williams and Neda Saxon Williams. Ann retired in 2000 after 18 years as Registered Nurse with Southeast Alabama Medical Center. She was a 1966 graduate of Screven County High School, GA; received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Wallace Community College in 1983; and her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Troy University in 1995. She was a former member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church and a present member of First United Methodist Church of Dothan where she was a member of the Progressors Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She helped organize and served for several years as president of the Wiregrass Parkinson’s Support Group in Dothan. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, writing, and playing the piano.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother Jan K. Williams, brother-in-law Kenneth Walters, and father-in-law Donald R. Wessel.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Don Wessel of Dothan; two children: Sean Wessel (Susannah) of Spokane, WA and Amy Darby (Sean) of Venice, FL; four grandchildren: Meredith, William, and Patrick Wessel, all of Spokane, WA and Savannah Darby of Venice, FL; brother Jerry Williams (Carolyn) of Savannah, GA; sister Sue Walters of Savannah, GA; mother-in-law Frieda Wessel of Rapid City, SD; three sisters-in-law: Donna Durant (Frank) of Rapid City, SD; Diane Kindt (Bingo) of Mobridge, SD, and Joyce Pfeifle (Duard) of Billings, MT; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncle.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to the Progressors Sunday School Class; and the nurses and staff at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, Extendicare Rehab, Covenant Hospice, and Home Instead.

Honorary pall bearers will be the members of the Progressors Sunday School Class.
