Life Story for Mathel Kirkland

Miss Mathel Kirkland, age 82 a resident of Gordon, died early Friday October 10, 2014 in Cowarts at the home of her niece following an extended illness.

Memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday October 12, 2014 at the Cowarts Creek FW Baptist Church with Pastor David Isaac officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church from 2 p.m. until service time on Sunday. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions may be made to Alacare Hospice, 3379 W. Main St., Dothan, AL. 36305 or the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 6267, Dothan, AL. 36302.

Miss Kirkland was born on February 8, 1932 in Houston County the daughter of General Coleman Kirkland and Vera Hamrick Kirkland. She worked at J.J. Newberry and Houston Paper Company prior to her retirement and after retirement she worked at J.C. Penney. Miss Kirkland was a member of Cowarts Creek FW Baptist Church and was a graduate of Cottonwood High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, General Rayford Kirkland and a great-niece, April Kirkland.

Survivors include: two brothers, Billy Kirkland, Gordon; Otis Kirkland (Dora), Cottonwood; special niece & caregiver, Luci Kirkland, Cowarts; special great-nephew, Cole Jeter, Cowarts; great-nephews, Justin Wilson & Austin Wright, both of Ashford; several other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
