Obituary for Kenneth Ernest Bryan

Kenneth Ernest Bryan was born on December 10, 1948 in Dothan, AL and died on August 30, 2014 at a local hospital from an extended illness. He was born to Alfred Ernest and Elizabeth Jean (Betty) Bryan. He attended Dothan City Schools where he played football, and graduated in 1968 from Dothan High School. He also attended Marion Military Institute where he played football.

Kenneth married Pamela Jean Jones on July 19, 1969. After marrying, he began working at James Grant Co. as a draftsman. He began working with the Houston County Sheriff’s Department in 1973, and retired in August of 1999. While at HCSD, he was a Deputy and an Investigator.

His love of family was top in his life. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren, and participated in all of their sports activities. He and his wife Pam were chaperones on many DHS bus trips. During the many years of supporting all of the DHS football and baseball games, Kenneth made many friends with the students. After retiring, he substituted at DHS where the students loved him. This past football season, the DHS Band made him an honorary member of the “Greatest Band in Tiger Land”. This past baseball season, the DHS Baseball Team made him and Pam lifetime members of the DHS Tiger Club.
Kenneth attended Lafayette Street Methodist Church while growing up and later attended First United Methodist Church of Dothan, AL.

His love of sports was very strong in his life. He is now on the 50 yard line with “Bear” calling the shots for his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide. He was also a member of the N & D Hunting Club.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, and his in-laws, S.E. and Martha Jean Jones. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Pam Bryan; son Chris Bryan (Branda), and daughter Beth Caylor (Shaun). He is also survived by a brother Scott Bryan & a brother-in-law Chuck Jones (Penny). His surviving grandchildren include, Jon Christopher and Will Bryan, and Ellason Caylor. There are several surviving nieces & nephews and a very special 15 year old K9 “lap” friend, Casey.

Visitation will be on Monday night from 6-8 pm at Glover Funeral Home, and funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 am at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Wes Kelley officiating and Kendall Glover of Glover Funeral Home directing. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to FUMC Youth Ministries. Serving as active Pall Bearers will be Larry Anderson, Chuck Jones, Chase Jones, Jon Christopher Bryan, Tom Sorrells, and Donald Valenza. Honorary Pall Bearers will be members of the DHS Football Team.
